The International Course on African Wetland Management (ICAWM) Kenya Wildlife Service Training Institute (KWSTI), Kenya www.kws.org/kwsti.html Aim: The ICAWM aims at providing knowledge and skills necessary in the management of Inland and Coastal Wetland Sites, in protected and nonprotected areas in the tropics. The course takes participants through the process of developing wetland management plans using biodiversity data, stakeholders’ analysis information, legal or institutional framework and wise use principles. Who can participate: The ICAWM is designed for middlelevel managers who are actively involved in either inland or coastal wetland management. Participants may be Wetlands, Wildlife, Environment, Water Resource, Forestry and Fisheries Officers as well as Resource Planners in the county councils, and officers from NGOs within and outside Africa. Duration: 6 Weeks. Location: The course-work is executed at KWSTI, which is the training arm of the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS). It is based in Naivasha (about 80 km Northwest of the City of Nairobi), Kenya. The field component extends to Uganda which is the only country in the Continent with a National Wetland Management Policy. In collaboration with: The ICAWM is organized primarily by KWSTI in conjunction with the Wetland Inspection Division, the Ministry of Water and Environment of Uganda, the Wildlife Division of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism of Tanzania and Rijkswaterstaat RIZA in The Netherlands.
