Wetlands International Wetlands International is a global organisation dedicated to achieving the conservation and wise use of wetlands as a contribution to sustainable development. through 16 offices worldwide Wetlands International works in partnership with all sectors to strengthen institutional and individual capacity for wetland management, stimulating regional co-operation, networking and facilitating regional and national training programmes according to identified needs. Wetlands International has positioned capacity building in a cross-cutting role across all its key goal areas in its’ STRATEGIC INTENT 2005 -2014.
Wageningen International. Wageningen International offers easy access to all international products and services of Wageningen UR, covering education, research, capacity development and consultancy services. The Capacity Development and Institutional Change Programme (CD&IC) integrates the specialist expertise of Wageningen UR with expertise on innovation and learning processes and capacity development for individual, organizational and social change. CD&IC works around five thmes, one of which is Integrated Land Water and Biodiversity Management. The wetland and river basin courses emphasize the need for coherence and synergy between conventions and international agreements (ecosystem approach, Ramsar, CBD and other international agreements).
Rijkswaterstaat RIZA, The Institute for Inland Water Management and Waste Water Treatment RIZA has a long standing experience in wetland management and development. RIZA is involved in several international co-operation projects including such areas as organizing workshops and study tours in the field of wetland management and wetland restoration.Besides RIZA plays a role in public participation in water management, both in national and international projects.
UNESCO-IHE Institute for Water Education provides academic training programmes in water and environmental management, including river basin and wetland management as well as research on wetland management, particularly on the role of natural and artificial wetlands in water quality and on sustainable wetland management for livelihood support. Unesco IHE organizes in partnership with other institutions tailor-made training on water and environmental management, particularly river basin and wetland management, through (i) face-to-face training at UNESCO-IHE or in the region; (ii) distance learning courses; (iii) combinations of (i) and (ii) and provide technical support for operation of electronic knowledge platforms, such as www.wetlandprofessionals.org
ITC (the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation) is an internationally recognized centre of excellence aiming at capacity building and institutional development in collaboration with partners across the world. ITC offers a large variety of education and training activities, tailored to the needs of individual client and funding organizations. A key strength of ITC is in the application of GIS/RS techniques in management of wetland systems in courses on Biodiversity Conservation and Environmental System Analysis and Management
Cap-Net/UNDP is an international network for capacity building in IWRM. It is made up of a partnership of autonomous international, regional and national institutions and networks committed to capacity building in the water sector. Capacity building services follow a demand driven approach in response to identified immediate needs and demands of society. Cap-Net works in close cooperation with the implementing agencies thus strengthening their institutional capacity. Cap-Net is promoting demand assessment tools and techniques with capacity building institutions and networks. Linkage with Regional Water Partnerships and implementing agencies are vital to ensure relevance of capacity building and, therefore, impact.

Concerning capacity building Alterra’s focus is on the strengthening of institutional capacity, regional cooperation and networking with respect to the implementation of ecological corridors and protection of other ecologically relevant landscapes.Basic modeling research on functioning of wetlands and rivers in their geomorphological, hydrological and ecological aspects and including land use and adaptation of land through drainage and irrigation; Geoinformation systems for biodiversity and land and water management linking with EU directives and EU initiatives in the field of the water Framework Directive.
