Workshop on Participation in Wetland Restoration |

During the Intecol
conference in July, RIZA organised a workshop 'Participation in
Wetland Restoration'. A total number of 20 people, from 10 different
countries, attended the workshop. First they listened to an interactive
introduction on the subject, by Bouke Ottow. He explained
the purpose of participation, advantages, disadvantages and the
possible ways of working. His
introduction presentation is available for you.
After the presentation, it was time to get to work. Participants
worked in small groups on two different cases. A resource person
shortly presented each case. The two cases were Lonsko Polje, Croatia,
presented by Goran Gugic from Croatian Waters; and the Costuleni
project, Romania, presented by Albert Remmelzwaal from RIZA, the
Netherlands. Both of them explained about their specific projects
and prepared a stakeholder analysis. The workshop participants discussed
the roles and levels of participation of the stakeholders, and by
doing so they gained understanding of the method used. The next
exercise was to prepare a short draft participation plan on when,
why and how to involve the different stakeholder groups.
Those interested in the method we used for the stakeholder analysis
can find some explanation the
introduction presentation. You can also see the two examples
of how to use the method, Lonsko
Polje and Costuleni
